How to Maximize Your Productivity While Working From Home

Working from home is new to most of us, but it’s a new reality that might be around for a long time, and so we better learn how to live with it and make the best out of it. For some of us, working from home works better, as there are less distractions, but others have a hard time separating their work from personal space when working from home. For those people, we have here a number of simple tips to help you increase your productivity while working from home.

Get up early and at a regular hour

One of the perks of working from home is that we get to wake up and start our day whenever we want (and also stay in our pajamas the entire day), but that’s a mistake. just because we don’t have to go to the office doesn’t mean we don’t need a work schedule to help us stay focused and grounded. Setting up an alarm to your usual hour, as if you were going to the office, would help you maintain a work routine and remind you that even though you’re home, you have a lot of work to get done. The same goes for staying in your pajamas the entire day – changing to something else would help remind us we’re here to work.

Take adequate breaks

When working from home, since we’re on our own, we tend to take shorter lunch breaks; the work boundaries get blurred, and we end up working too many hours, reducing our productivity. Make sure you take a break that gives you enough time to recharge; if you feel like it, take a walk outside during this break (if you have a dog, this would be a great opportunity to take him out on a walk). On the other hand, don’t over do it with too many breaks just because no one’s watching.

Try and leave the house every day

Now that we’re working from home, and leaving the house has become somewhat of a health threat, we might find ourselves spending days without leaving the house; that’s not good for us! Sitting all day while working in front of a computer, and then sitting in front of the TV before going to bed could be quite dangerous for our health. Try and leave the house at the end of the workday, even if it’s just to take a quick walk around the block. We need to move our bodies on a regular basis, even for a short time (a little goes a long way). This would allow you to breath some fresh air, and if you do it while there’s still light outside, you get the extra bonus of absorbing some sun and vitamin D.

Enjoy the extra time you have

Working from home saves us a lot of important time we normally spend on the commute. If you think about it, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t spend this time doing something you love. You can use it to cook more often – we normally don’t have the time to cook during the week due to our busy work schedule, but most of us save at least an hour every day now that we don’t have to waste time in traffic. This could be the perfect time to cook yourself dinner (instead of ordering takeout every day), do a quick workout or anything else that would help you relax and unwind.
