The Fiat 500 boasts Italian designer touches and that cute Euro-feel that makes us feel like we just stepped out of a high-speed chase in a Jason Bourne film! (Cast your minds back to the first flick of the series, remember that teeny tiny Mini? Yeah, we’re getting those vibes.

From $15,990 US, the Fiat 500 is compact, zippy and fun to drive! Sure it may be lacking in some areas, ergonomically and with a few blind spots, but hey, if you want an iconic city car, you can’t go past this cutie!

Another one bites the dust. The Chrysler Aspen was discontinued less than a year after its reveal, oh and not to mention the fact that it was only two months into its full-scale production. But despite this move by the company, the SUV itself has aged quite well over the years. Built to last, the Aspen’s first release model was sold for around $40,000.

But again, as we’ve seen with the other cars on this list, depreciation kicks in pretty quickly, so for that reason you could pick one up for a mere $12,000! So for those looking for a tough SUV that’s great for off-road driving, you can’t go past this, especially at this price!

Yep, that’s right – we’re adding Porsche to our list of car brands with phenomenal prices that have dropped to crazy low levels! Sure, it’s on the higher end of our list at just under $30,000 but heck, how many people do you know that drive a Porsche? Yeah. Exactly.

From its usual $60k + price tag, it’s essentially half price! If you surf the net and the car forums, you’re bound to find a beautiful car that’s only a few years old with some miles on it, for a price that’s easily digestible!

No need to fantasize. You too can feel like James (or Jane) Bond with your very own Aston Martin. The Vantage, a stunning offering by Aston Martin, is the V8 sports car of your dreams. High-speeds, high-class and high-fuel costs all are included in this car package! Okay sure, usually we think these cars are reserved for spies or the mega rich, but we’re here to let you in on a teeny tiny secret: just 5-6 years after their release, their value drops to less than half. So if you’re willing to wait a few years before getting your hands on one of these sleek speed machines, you’ll grab yourself a great deal!

The V8 Vantage with a few miles on it can be found for just a fraction of the initial driveaway price of $120,000. Instead of $120,000, you’re looking at closer to $30,000 to $40,000. Not bad at all. The Joneses will certainly be dropping their shades and checking you out as you park in the drive!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. Mercedes-Benz is just pure class. Known for luxury and its ability to provide the smoothest on-road experience, the brand remains a consumer favourite – particularly for the discerning motoring enthusiast. Essentially a Gran Turismo coupé, the CL-Class is unique in that it can comfortably seat four people. Usually the backseats of coupé vehicles are cramped, but not for the Mercedes-Benz model! With a host of luxury features, it’s also quick off the mark, with its rear-wheel drive model hitting 0 to 60 in just 4.4 seconds.

That’s fast for a car which weighs in excess of 4000 pounds. When it was first released, the CL class was going for around $100,000 – hey, that’s the price of luxury! However it makes our list because well, you can find a great second-hand model for a quarter of the price!

Oh we’re in the big leagues now huh? Bavarian Motor Works is synonymous with not only luxury, but speed too. A well-loved brand, and greatly aspired to, the BMW 7 series was just another heavy hitter for the brand. But, as any car enthusiast would know, mass-market luxury car offerings have a downside: they suffer large-scale depreciation, and relatively quickly. This happens for two reasons: they cost too much OR become leased vehicles, instead of turning over profits for the company immediately.

While it may not make dollars for the big wigs at BMW, it’s putting dollars back in the pockets of savvy consumers! So if you wait a few years after a luxury vehicle is released, chances are you’ll be able to pick up a car at over 30% off the initial driveaway price. The 7 Series for example, if you pick it up these days, will set you back just $23,000 – not bad at all! Leather seats and German engineering here we come!

So the Dodge Magnum isn’t exactly uh… the most aesthetically refined nor pleasing vehicle, but hey, it was signed off and was put into production. But clearly, Dodge customers don’t mind the er hybrid which crosses over the Charger into a station wagon? Anywho, if comfort is your jam, and lots of space, maybe this wagon is right for you! And we’ve got some even better news: it’s solidly built, it’s a rear-wheel-drive (have fun with that), and super spacious.

Not to mention having quite a bit of power behind it! But because of the over-saturation of SUVs on the market, it wasn’t exactly the consumer’s first choice. Either better-priced, or better looking (they say not to judge a book by its cover but, how can you not?? The school moms are going to see you coming from a mile away!), the Magnum just didn’t quite stack up! These days, you can pick one of these up for around $7,000! Pretty neat!

Now the S Class is well, pure class. One of Mercedes-Benz’s high luxury offerings, the vehicle known as Sonderklasse (German for “special class”) is a series of full-sized flagship vehicles. With predecessors dating back as far as 1954, the S-Class is pretty iconic for the brand. It’s important for Mercedes-Benz to be the top of its class, and as such, that means that new models are released frequently.

As a result, new models demand extravagant prices. But on the flip side, this means that if you wait a few years, you can pick up an S-class at almost 40% less than the retail! If you’ve got the cash to purchase the newest model, by all means, go for it – but if you wait a few years, you could save a small fortune that’s for sure!

Now the Mercedes-Benz SL-class was developed to take on the British Aston Martin Vantage. Pretty big step to be honest. But then again, this is Mercedes-Benz we’re talking about here! The German powerhouse created a vehicle which certainly packed a LOT of punch – 283 HP to be exact. With a line which is over six decades old, it is highly respected, and thus highly scrutinized by car enthusiasts! The recipe for success is in its two seats, folding metal hard-top, front-engine and rear-wheel drive. Each year, the SL becomes faster and more efficient – the latest model has more HP (306 roughly!) and has dropped its weight by 140kg. Pretty neat. Not to mention the fact that each year they get even better looking (though some critics have noted that its front bonnet’s looks are an acquired taste).

But we also understand that not everyone can shell out $120,000 + for a two-seater vehicle. For the average motorist who’s simply after something comfortable and relatively quick, it’s perhaps a bit of a stretch. But again, we want to draw your attention to depreciation on luxury cars, and particularly the fact that the SL (we’d say perhaps a 2008/2009 model) can be picked up for around $30,000! Shut up and take our (my) money!

We bet you didn’t think this would be on our list of “cheap” cars eh? Tbh we didn’t either. But here we are. The Maybach 57 and 62 were produced between 2007 and 2012, and were the first models of the Maybach brand to be released since the brand’s revival by DaimlerChrysler AG. Initially built from the concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, the car was in fact based on the Mercedes Benz S-Class sedan. When it was released, it was in fact placed ahead of competitors Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Pretty big deal.

Sadly, these models just didn’t quite turn over the profit that was expected – continued financial losses for Maybach and a 20% sales turnover compared to Rolls Royce signaled the end of the revival. In saying that, these cars are basically palatial when it comes to size and features. They too, however, were victim to depreciating quickly – as such, you can pick up a piece of history for $60,000 – and hey, before you say anything, that’s an absolute steal compared to its initial price tag of $400,000!

Upon its initial release, the Lexus GS received a wonderful reception: stylish, luxurious, and performance wise it was great, making it the whole package. The grand sedan (GS), was a favorite executive car and was well placed in the luxury sedan category. Its success led to a number of re-releases which have also been profitable for Lexus.

The 2010 version sold for a decent $50,000 – yeah, don’t worry, we think that’s on the steep side too. But hey, given the options and luxe features, it was definitely in line price-wise! But time chips away at this hefty price tag, so that now you can pick up a luxe Lexus for around $15,000. We’re definitely behind that!

So the Cadillac SRX was produced between 2004 and 2016 – meaning that yep, it’s gone out of production. Sadness. But also happiness for savvy consumers looking for luxury on a budget! The SRX wasn’t retired because consumers didn’t love it, but actually, because Cadillac wanted to take advantage of a change in naming convention, replacing the SRX with the new model, the XT5. Mystery solved! In saying that, the SRX was priced on the higher end of the spectrum, which made it a bit of a stretch for consumers.

The car itself however was smart and sleek, with stylish features and a solid 265 HP engine. Cruising in a Cadillac. The dream, really. Due to the decision by Cadillac to change the name and update, it made the SRX a heck of a lot cheaper. These days, you can pick one up for just $15,000. That’s a lot of car for a little money.

With a name like “Leaf” you better believe that the marketing department at Nissan were seriously having a hard time naming this vehicle. The five-door sedan was named due to its “green”-ness. Sure it may be electric and eco-friendly, but please… for the love of cars… give it a better name. When the Joneses ask what car you’re driving, surely you will wince before saying “we’ve got a leaf.” Just don’t. Despite the ill-named vehicle, it’s been Nissan’s most successful electric car venture. Good for Nissan and all, but in saying this, its resale value is dismal to say the least.

The sheer volume of leased Leaf vehicles doesn’t help with selling one of these cars! This means that if you’re looking to buy and never sell, this could be the car for you! We won’t draw too much attention to the fact that these cars attract over $7,000 in tax credits, but hey, if you want to change from gas to electric, this could be the way to go!

Look, to be totally honest with you all, our team had no idea what an Acura ZDX was. After a quick browse on the web, apparently, this model was created by Honda for its upmarket label, Acura. Is it embarrassing that this was news for us? Probably. Anywho, the ZDX was a mid-size luxury crossover, designed to compete with other sedans in the category (think Lexus), however had a relatively short lifespan. In a nutshell, the ZDX was a flop. Like, majorly.

The car was pushing for a lowered back sports style – seemingly ahead of its time, because well, look at SUVs these days!  At the time, it failed to impress, and the looks which didn’t quite wow consumers led it to depreciate, despite its great features! For this reason, you could pick one up for as little as $13,000 – and the best part is that the design won’t date for a while still!

You really can’t get a more iconic Ford than the Mustang. The model which sings out – actually, more like it purrs on the road, is a Ford classic. For the amount of power under its hood, the Mustang is a top pick for performance junkies! With a V8 engine that drives like a dream, the Mustang GT is a great choice – in terms of both value and performance. Due to the demand, Ford has been releasing generations upon generations of new Mustangs that consumers almost can’t keep up!

The speed at which Ford is releasing these newer models, however, has led to significant price decreases on earlier models. So you could pick up a bargain, saving over $20,000 on a car that retailed for $35,000 brand new! Also, you get the bragging rights of saying “the Stang” when referring to your new whip. Corny maybe, cool, yes.

So good that we’ve snuck in both models onto our list, next up is the Nissan Versa/ Nissan Micra. The sedan is, in fact, one of the cheapest new cars available in the US, from under $13,000 drive away! Sadly for our Canadian friends the sedan isn’t available, but, there is the sportier Nissan Micra, which is even cheaper at under $12,000!

Definitely quite the bargain for a reputable and reliable car! Sure it isn’t built like some of the German or Italian supercars, but it’s got a great safety rating and is surprisingly roomy for the price (the sedan, more so obviously!). The Micra may be slightly underperforming when it comes to fuel economy, but it is also spacious for its size. Again, you get what you pay for – this is a base model, BUT if you’re looking for something cute to help you get from A to B that’s brand new, we are certainly flying the flag for Nissan here!

Ah yes, that glistening chrome jaguar. Synonymous with luxury and prestige, the Jaguar brand is a car for those who enjoy the finer things in life. The XF, one of the brand’s newer models to come out, is certainly no exception to the Jaguar badge. The base model started at a cool $50,000, but Jaguar released the info that most of its clients opted to spend an extra $10,000 and get all the upgrades and special features.

But this was back in 2009 – and we know that Jaguar is considered a reliable second-hand buy, so why not look to the second-hand market for a luxury bargain? Good news for those of us looking for luxury on a budget: you can pick up at 2009/2010 model for around $15,000.

Nissans are in that niche of the market where well, it isn’t so much a niche – more of a smorgasbord of car manufacturers. Competing with the likes of Honda, Toyota and Mazda, the Nissan created the Rogue SV to differentiate themselves from the pack. It sorta worked, sorta didn’t. When it was released its sporty lines appealed to the same sort of consumer.

The zippy Rogue SV underwent some massive design changes and was re-released. As such, it saw a 5% price drop, and made the initial release model even cheaper. So this rogue vehicle was exactly that: in both design and in breaking into the market!

Originally with the words luxury and finesse in mind when it was being designed, the Lincoln MKZ had a lot going for it initially. However, sometimes even a good design can be poorly executed – such was the case with this particular Lincoln model. Falling short of the hype and vision of its designers, the MKZ just wasn’t the cream of the crop enough to be truly classed as a luxury sedan. Given the price range for the vehicle, it could barely compete with far more luxurious models for similar prices.

You can’t overcharge and under deliver! That’s like the golden rule of sales! So upon its release, it had less than satisfactory sales, and many of these new models found their way in used-car car yards with low mileage. So instead of paying $36,000 brand new, you could be paying well under $20,000 for one in really good condition!

Sure, it may have legendary off-road capability, a useful array of engine options and a loaded specs list, but the Jeep Commander too has fallen in price. Likened to America’s favorite army vehicle, the Hummer, the Commander is a whole lot of macho. Comfy and just as great on-road, the Jeep Commander was a great contender in its market. With all the practical features and hardiness, it’s a no-brainer to take it on a road trip, but it’s also stylish enough that it lends itself to the suburbs.

However, the cost of upkeep has shown to lead to the steady depreciation of the car. Since its release, prices have dropped lower and lower, to the point where you could find an awesome second-hand Commander for just $10,000! That weekend getaway is so much closer than you think!

Okay so next up is the Hyundai Sonata. We’re throwing it back to the 2014 model – though since then, it’s had a number of revisions that have… somewhat improved the aesthetics of this car. The mid-sized offering from Hyundai isn’t exactly the sexiest or most appealing car, but you know what, don’t judge a book by its cover! But in saying that, when it’s up against the better-looking Mazda 6 and Ford Mondeo, it’s a bit difficult to go for the Sonata.

Slightly frumpy, it’s more friendly than fierce, but in saying that it’s actually pretty handsome when it’s rolling on the road! With some great features, great MPG ratings and being pretty cost-efficient, this could be a nifty buy! These slightly older Sonata models can be found at pretty much any second-hand dealer, for a palatable $10,000 – depending of course on your budget!

Audi strikes again, this time with its more economical medium-sized luxury sedan, the A6. Following its release, the A6 has received rave reviews – stylish, comfortable, and a high-performing vehicle! Boasting cool features and a 335 HP engine, it’s as slick as it is punchy! Initially being released for $50,000, you can now pick one of these babies up for less than a third of the original price – just $15,000! Sure, it would be rather nice to be part of the Audi drivers club.

Has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Well, what are you waiting for? Go on down to the second-hand dealer or online and find yourself a luxe bargain!

Swedish manufacturer Volvo has a reputation – look, it’s not bad, but there is a certain stigma about being a Volvo driver! Due to this, Volvo luxury sedans are often left out in the cold within the American car market. Sometimes your product just doesn’t resonate 100% with the consumer! Whilst their SUVs do well in the States, their Sedan cousins just seem to miss the mark.

Due to this lack of interest, this has caused a depreciation in value – at an alarmingly fast rate! For example, a 2010 S80 Volvo, which upon its release went for a cool $45,000, can now be found at a second-hand dealer or online for as little as $11,000. For a luxury European sedan, that really is quite the bargain! If you’re looking for some authentic European engineering and some nice features for a good price, look no further than the S80!

The quintessential car for the English vehicle enthusiast, nothing is more iconic in British racing circles than the Mini Cooper. Sure, Mini Cooper was reinvented in 2001 under new owners BMW, but many hatchbacks and crossovers are still built in the company’s plant in Oxford, United Kingdom. With some going for as much as $45,000 brand new, there’s certainly something in waiting a few years and grabbing one second hand.

Subarus certainly have a reputation: often for street racing! But no, with this particular model of Subaru, we’re looking at something more spacious and maybe with a little less horsepower? The 4-door Subaru Legacy was created to tick off both boxes of providing comfort AND style. We think they did a pretty good job of it! With a punchy 170 HP engine, it’s got the grunt, but also has the tech which makes it super driveable even in 2019! Its intelligent all-wheel-drive system allows for a smooth transition from city driving to off-roading.

Fun fact: did you know that from their initial release price of $27,000, you can pick up one of these babies for less than half of that? Yep! These days, if you do your research and spend a couple of hours browsing the second-hand market, you can easily find one for around $10,000!

Roll up in a 300C, for a lot less! The epitome of wannabe gangster (or gangster, we don’t want any trouble!), the Chrysler 300C was a testament to days gone by. The car which reminds us of every gangster film ever is a solid, brawny looking car, but it certainly looks very smooth on the road. With the option of a V6 or a gutsier V8 engine, its sleek interior is a great contrast to its full presence on the road.

Rather than paying the driveaway price, you can pick up a 2009 or even a 2010 model for as little as $20,000! If you don’t mind the size and the attention the 300C brings, then this could be a sweet ride for you. Ditch the crowds and the family sedans and get yourself a 300C to drive around town like a king. Yes, sir.

There are cars that hold value reasonably well, and then there are cars with a value that seems to dissipate into thin air. Example A: the Nissan Maxima. There wasn’t really any real reason for it to lose value quite as quickly as it has, but hey, it does mean a good thing for consumers – a relatively new car, for a lot less than its RRP! Whether it was lack of demand, or people just weren’t too enthused by the shape of this particular model, we’re not totally sure why it flunked.

Coming with a 300 horsepower V6 engine, some fun tech and a 3-year warranty, it’s actually a pretty impressive car. When it was released, the Maxima set you back around $32,000 US, but nowadays you can pick one up for just over $20,000. We’re right on the cusp of warranty, but essentially, you’re saving $10,000 on a car that still has its driveaway warranty included!

The King of Sportscars, topping our list is the 2001 Ferrari. Sure, it’s second hand… but, it’s a FERRARI! And, for <$50,000! That’s a bargain if we’ve ever seen one. Now this particular model has that classic shape which takes us back to our Need for Speed playing days (look, for you millennials, if you aren’t up to scratch on that, make sure you dig out your sibling’s old PS1/2 and find the game. You’ll see).

You’re going to easily find second-hand cars at crazy prices, but there’s definitely a bit of luck involved! We’re just saying that if it’s been your dream since you were a kid to own one of these Italian stallions, it’s certainly more within reach after a few years on the market!

If you’ve ever been to Europe, you will have seen every color combination and varietal parked in lanes, streets, on top of other cars (vertically stacked cars in car parks, pls). These teeny tiny Smart Fortwo cars can squeeze into almost any nook or cranny – sometimes in places where cars really shouldn’t be parked. Seems that these non-law-abiding vehicles have broken boundaries, not just with car parking, but also in terms of price! Sure they’re convenient, fuel-efficient, pretty cute on the road and all – but really, you can’t fit much inside these bite-sized cars.

This car is for the single occupant, or for someone who really only cares about getting from A to B. As families grow and you need space, they aren’t exactly at the top of the list – so better suited to city driving, and for the lone ranger. For singles, they’re a great buy, and cheap to run. Sure, they might just fit your handbag and a pair of gym shoes, but they’re going at an even tighter price of late!

Ah Volkswagen. You can’t go anywhere without seeing a Golf zooming around the streets. But we’re here to talk about the VW Passat. Since the emissions test scandal that had people talking about the brand in a not-so-nice way, VW has tried desperately to come back! However on top of the models being recalled, the negative press about Volkswagen in fact caused prices to drop – demand was lower, and there was oversupply.

So the VW Passat, which was a decent mid-sized family sedan, which initially retailed at some $25,000 in 2014, can now be picked up for no more than $12,000-$13,000! Of course, the second hand market is open to some really hot deals, so make sure to keep an eye out – you should be able to pick up a bargain for a car that’s in great condition! Family-mover problem: solved!

So sad. One of the boldest cars on the road. The Hummer was in fact, discontinued almost 10 years ago! But the day after, the brand was sold to an anonymous buyer. Some trivia for you. Anywho, this guzzling SUV (tank more like) will definitely attract a lot of attention – so if that sounds like you, listen up!

When the H2 version was released, they were running out of showrooms (or driving rather) at $60,000. But lo and behold the power of depreciation, which has brought these massive machines down a heck of a lot – to just $20,000! Sure, the fuel cost to run these babies would be up there but…to be honest, just for the novelty of owning a Hummer we’d take a gamble and go for it.

There’s just something about seeing those four rings on the road, no? Audi is a brand which is usually reserved for the upper echelon of society – synonymous with class and luxury. The A8, which is described on Audi’s website as “the embodiment of our forward-thinking approach,” the A8 represents the “future of the luxury class.” Pretty big statement. But tbh, it certainly lives up to this statement! Well-known around the globe for its quality and ultra-luxe features, it’s also pretty speedy for its size.

The Quattro version is known for its performance with its massive 372 HP engine, all nicely enclosed under a stylist bonnet. When the A8 first came out, it wasn’t cheap by any means – $80,000 for a base model. But over time, as is the deal with luxury vehicles, it has depreciated significantly, meaning you, the savvy consumer, can grab a bargain. When we say bargain, it’s certainly not a $10,000 job, but it IS half price or less, depending where you look! Put aside some time to research and we’re sure you’ll find yourself an A8 for a great price.

So the 2018 model of the Toyota Yaris got a few slight upgrades, and hence bumped the price up. Fortunately, however, this means that you can snap up a great deal on the 2017 model. For just over $16,000 US, or over $17,000 if you’re from the Republic of Ryan Reynolds, you can get your hands on a new model!

As Toyota’s entry-level model, we expect you can even get cheaper on the second-hand market, but hey, nothing really beats that fresh car smell does it? Going off reviews, and the fact that one of our writers has a new Yaris, it seems that from aesthetics to fuel economy it’s a great all-rounder. Not bad at all.

We’re not sure what Hyundai was going for when they came out with the Genesis Coupe, and apparently, the public didn’t either – hence why it makes our list for cheap cars! It was a hybrid model, trying to capture a wide market as opposed to just going for a niche – it was sporty but also “for the family” however missed the mark. The car just didn’t really hit the sales targets – well, get anywhere near the margins they were hoping for.

At the time too, the Genesis had two tough competitors: the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Charger. Because it didn’t wow the public nor critics for that matter, its prices took a dive – great news for those looking for a “sporty sedan” – you can pick one up for $8,000 to $9,000, a far cry from the original price tag which almost hit $30,000!

The Impala. Pretty iconic actually. But all good things must come to an end – did you know that Chevrolet’s longest-running Sedan is set to become an out-of-production car? Pretty surprising. That’s like VW calling off the Golf. Yeah. The large-size vehicles have already become redundant, with production ceasing for good. That being said, Chevy is now in a position where they want to clear fast – so they’re basically having a fire sale!

You can certainly see that in the massive price drops – and with the choice of either an economical 4-cylinder or a more gutsy 6-cylinder engine, there’s an Impala for all tastes! Whether you go for the LS or thee LT model, Chevrolet’s offering is wonderful at a price that’s even better.

Mazdas are reliable and convenient, which makes them a popular choice for families. The sedan has some nice lines too which make it less of an eyesore and more of a score when it comes to picking up a great car! The Mazda 6 is one of the most common cars on the road, and good news for savvy consumers: if you’re in the market for a good second hand, you can steal a deal on a 2010 model for around $8,000. Sure, it’s nearly over a decade old car but hey – good things come to those who wait right?

Also, for those savings for a car with relatively low kms, that’s not bad at all! As well as being reliable, Mazdas are a top pick for fuel economy as well as for low servicing costs! So with reliable performance and a reasonable upkeep fee, its well worth looking into – you could get your hands on one of these family-friendly sedans for a great price!

One of the most popular SUVs bought in America, you’ll have definitely seen more than your fair share of Yukons on the highways. The abundance of GMC’s SUVs is owing to the fact that they have a presence on the road and are a pretty smooth ride with great suspension. With that said, that they can be a little cramped in the third row and for any cargo, though they do pack between 350 and 420 Horsepower! Built to last, these SUVs are tough and durable – a great choice for long-distance journeys or if you want to rock up to the school drop off in an armored-tank-looking vehicle.

Imagine that blacked out picking up the kids eh? Fierce. While they can ask for as much as $75,000, you can pick up a good second hand (say a 2010-2013 model) for around $15,000. If you’re any good at haggling, you could certainly get it down a little lower – doesn’t hurt asking right?

The charismatic V8 has an undeniable presence which is also incomparable. Seeing one of these on the road is bound to give you some serious whiplash! With its closest competitor being the Mustang, it’s definitely a tight race, but it certainly is one good looking car. Despite its good looks and power, the Camaro has one of the highest depreciation rates on this list.
