How to Take a Mental Break from Work
Remember when you were a child and thought being an adult would be the most amazing thing ever? We’ve all had this experience during our youth where we thought our parents had it made! Then we grow older and become adults only to find that we must work in order to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table, and life running smoothly.
Being an adult means that you must obtain and retain a job, but it doesn’t mean you have to work yourself to death! Today we’re going to share some tips to help you take a mental break from work so that you can protect your mental and physical health.
Work in Bursts
If you’re able to adjust your current work schedule to work in bursts, as opposed to working eight or more straight hours, then do it! We suggest that you take a break every 52 minutes to keep your productivity levels increased. Taking a break every 52 minutes will give you something to look forward to so that you’re more apt to be productive during your little work bursts throughout the day.
Get Outside
Consider getting outside during your breaks at work. This can be something as simple as taking a short walk around the block or sitting in your vehicle with the windows down. Depending on where you work, there may be limited options to get fresh air, but any fresh air is better than none during your busy workday to help improve your mental health.
Stay Fueled
Whenever you’re hungry your focus will decrease and in turn, productivity will decrease. This results in you working more hours than necessary to complete tasks. Keep a stock of protein-rich snacks to bite into whenever your stomach starts grumbling. This will keep you full for longer and provide you with the correct balance of nutrients to stay mentally strong during your workday.
Rest your Eyes
With so many people working in front of screens for the job, our eyes are taking a hit. Consider taking a break every 20 minutes to turn and focus on something other than your computer screen. You’ll only need to focus on this non-electronic item for about 20 seconds, but doing so will help reduce eye strain and give you a quick mental break from work.
These are just a few of the tips and tricks we have to help you take a short mental break during your busy workdays. There are many ways you can start placing emphasis on mental breaks throughout your busy days, but hopefully, these tips have inspired you to start making mental breaks a priority in your day.
