History Channel’s New Competition Series Reunites These Familiar Faces
If you were a fan of the 90s TV showHome Improvement, get ready. No, it’s not a reunion (calm down, Jonathan Taylor Thomas fans). But a new series from History Channel will bring two Home Improvement stars back. Tim Allen and Richard Karn will bring their show-within-a-show “Tool Time” back in a way in History Channel’s Assembly Required, reported Collider.
Assembly Required is a competition show where builders fight to make projects from their home workshops. YouTuber April Wilkerson will join Allen and Karn as hosts. Wilkerson mainly features DIY projects on her channel. The contestants will invent things like a barbecue bicycle, Jacuzzis, or home-made lawn mowers using household items. The hosts, Allen, Karn, and Wilkerson, will check-in with the makers via video chat. The winning project will get $5,000 for each episode.
The Hollywood Reporter said Allen and Karn would also delve into the history of the household items that will be used and the techniques employed.
It's tool time!
Tim Allen and Richard Karn hosted a show within a show on Home Improvement called “Tool Time.” The show presented uses for tools and humorously showed Allen unable to use tools properly.
Home Improvement ran from 1991-99 on ABC. It propelled Allen’s career, who went on to star in the Santa Clause franchise and currently stars in the FOX comedy Last Man Standing. The show also launched the careers of teen heartthrob Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Pamela Anderson. Karn most recently had a recurring role on the Hulu show Pen15.
Allen told Collider doing Assembly Required gives him an opportunity to make fun of his old friend Karn. It also allowed them to shine a spotlight on people “who can solve a problem not by talking about it, but by ‘doing’ it with creativity and amazing building skills.” Assembly Required will premiere on the History Channel on Feb. 23.
