The Real Meaning Of The Undertaker’s Tattoos
The Undertaker, known in real life as Mark William Calaway, had a successful three-decade-long career in the WWE. He was first introduced in the 1990s, and he officially retired in 2020 at the age of 55. Undertaker has changed his appearance throughout the years as well, and with it came the addition of tattoos.
One of Undertaker’s tattoos was on his throat that read “SARA,” which was a tribute to his second wife, Sara Frank, who he married in 2000. After seven years of marriage, however, the two called it quits and Undertaker had his ex-wife’s name covered up. Now, he has a chain tattoo around his neck to conceal Sara’s name, per Media Referee.
Another tattoo the former wrestler has is on his abdomen that reads “B.S.K.” with the word “PRIDE” written underneath. B.S.K. stands for Bone Street Krew, which consisted of a group of wrestlers including The Undertaker, Savio Vega, Yokozuna, and The Godfather, among others, and they all have a B.S.K. tattoo, as reported by Body Art Guru. The Bone Street Krew wasn’t an official wrestling faction; it was formed on genuine friendship and the members’ common interests, especially playing dominoes (via the New York Post).

The Undertaker also has sleeve tattoos on his arms with various designs, and plenty of them are skeletons. Undertaker’s persona on the wrestling ring is of a supernatural being that could never be defeated. Other nicknames that he acquired throughout his career include The Deadman and The Phenom.
It comes as no surprise that he would incorporate his character onto his body. One of his skeleton tattoos is located on his nape. “That is the fighting skeleton. A lot of my tattoos have to do with skeletons, skulls and all that. That’s the war skeleton right there,” he said of the skeleton tattoo with a fighting stance (via Sportskeeda). There are also skeleton tattoos on his right arm and left arm, as well as on other parts of his body.
WWE’s Executive Director Bruce Prichard once advised Undertaker not to get tattoos, as he thought it would ruin his career, per Inside the Ropes. Undertaker did the opposite, however, and holds the title of the longest-serving wrestling star in WWE, as noted by Give Me Sport.
