What Was Jessica Walter’s Net Worth When She Died?
Fans of hilarious portrayals of shockingly non-maternal mothers are mourning today. Beloved, award-winning actress Jessica Walter died in her sleep on March 24, 2021 at her home in New York City, as reported by Deadline. She was 80 years old.
Walter is perhaps best known these days for her portrayal of Lucille Bluth, the martini-loving, self-centered matriarch of the hapless Bluth family on the television show Arrrested Development, which ran from 2003 to 2006 and again in 2013 and 2018. Since 2009, Walter has also provided the voice of Malory Archer, mother of super-spy Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) and head of a dysfunctional intelligence agency on the adult animated sitcom Archer.
However, Walter’s acting career goes back several decades. She started by acting on the Broadway stage, earning the Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 1963 for her role in the play Photo Finish. She starred in Clint Eastwood‘s 1971 directorial debut film, Play Misty For Me, and earned an Emmy award in 1975 for Amy Prentiss, in which she portrayed an investigator who becomes Chief of Detectives within the San Francisco Police Department, per Television Academy. Before her voiceover work on Archer, she provided the voice of Mama on the 1990s sitcom Dinosaurs.
Jessica Walter will be missed
In addition to the more than 60 guest starring television roles Jessica Walter played over the course of her career, as well as her appearances in movies such as Slums of Beverly Hills and The Flamingo Kid, and appearances in miniseries such as Scruples and Bare Essence, she was a spokeswoman for Southern California Edison, Albertsons supermarkets, and Chase Bank. She also served as 2nd National Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild and sat on the SAG Board of Directors for over a decade.
Per Celebrity Net Worth, Walter had a net worth of $4 million at the time of her death. According to The Richest, she earned $125,000 for each 2013 episode of Arrested Development. Sounds like a life well-lived as a beloved, working actress with almost 60 years of excellent performances to her credit. May she live on forever in the many GIFs inspired by her singular comedic talent.
